Employment Specialist

 

 

 

This is a full-time non-exempt position reporting to the Vocational Program Supervisor.  The Employment Specialist provides necessary on-going support to clients as they go from training to employment and self-sufficiency.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Conduct orientations for training opportunities and administer assessment evaluations.
  2. Assess job readiness, including legal history and physical health as it relates to employment
  3. Provide job-training services and/or short term training resources leading directly to employment within a standardized approach to assisting homeless individuals achieve self-sufficiency.
  4. Participate in case review meetings and assist in developing training goals as well as consult on short and long term career goals for residents.  Communicate resident progress and jointly problem-solve.
  5. Conduct and analyze vocational assessment tests to determine the veteran’s skill level and employment aptitude.
  6. Set appointment times with residents to discuss specific short term goals, long term vocational goals, resume content, experience, education, detrimental problems., etc.
  7. Maintain participants file, review compliance; track training and employment placements, number of residents transitioned into the community, length of employment, pay, job transfers, promotions and overall progress.
  8. Provide individual training counseling, post training follow-up and supportive services.
  9. Represent the clients and New Directions to stakeholders – provide organizational history, mission, goals, and outlook.  Provide education and mediation to trainees as needed
  10. Review and interpret evaluation results with Vocational Program Manager and assigned collaborative partner(s).
  11. Track information in database as required.
  12. Additional duties as may be assigned.
