Employment Specialist
This is a full-time non-exempt position reporting to the Vocational Program Supervisor. The Employment Specialist provides necessary on-going support to clients as they go from training to employment and self-sufficiency.
Responsibilities
- Conduct orientations for training opportunities and administer assessment evaluations.
- Assess job readiness, including legal history and physical health as it relates to employment
- Provide job-training services and/or short term training resources leading directly to employment within a standardized approach to assisting homeless individuals achieve self-sufficiency.
- Participate in case review meetings and assist in developing training goals as well as consult on short and long term career goals for residents. Communicate resident progress and jointly problem-solve.
- Conduct and analyze vocational assessment tests to determine the veteran’s skill level and employment aptitude.
- Set appointment times with residents to discuss specific short term goals, long term vocational goals, resume content, experience, education, detrimental problems., etc.
- Maintain participants file, review compliance; track training and employment placements, number of residents transitioned into the community, length of employment, pay, job transfers, promotions and overall progress.
- Provide individual training counseling, post training follow-up and supportive services.
- Represent the clients and New Directions to stakeholders – provide organizational history, mission, goals, and outlook. Provide education and mediation to trainees as needed
- Review and interpret evaluation results with Vocational Program Manager and assigned collaborative partner(s).
- Track information in database as required.
- Additional duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
- BA/BS preferred or related experience
- Strong understanding of working with homeless low-income, recovering populations
- Experience in vocational rehabilitation, training, job development, employment placement and retention
- Knowledge of MS Office, including Word and Excel
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends
- Sensitive to various cultures and lifestyles
