Food Service Assistant
Classifications: Non-exempt
Reports to: Food Service Manager
Summary: Works under direct supervision of Food Service Manager and Lead Cook; will assist in the preparation and serving of food in the dining room and maintain food service facilities and keep equipment in a sanitary condition. Will perform other job related duties as required, such as cleaning kitchen and equipment, and prepping food for next day’s service. He/she will be responsible for daily picking-up and returning all donations made to New Directions. He/she will also assist in separation and distribution of donated items and possible bagging of items for distribution to sister sites
Essential Duties:
- Prepares vegetables, fruits, salads, and other foods for cooking.
- Slices and prepares bread for meal service. May make sandwiches, desserts and beverages for special functions.
- May wash pots, pans, dishes and utensils.
- Cleans work area, equipment, teaching kitchen and disposes of refuse.
- Assists cooks as directed
- Labels, dates and stores all food properly
- Assists the Food Service Manager in all catering projects
- Picks up donations in a timely manner and promptly returns to designated locations(s)
Job Requirements:
- Experience in quantity food preparation and kitchen maintenance preferable but any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform duties and responsibilities
- Possession of a current CA Class “C” Driver License
- Flexible schedule required
- May work some evenings/weekends
