New
Directions' Veterans Village Diner has been designated as
the official training and deployment site for the Los Angeles
Homeless Service Authority's (LAHSA) annual county-wide homeless
count. Volunteers, homeless individuals as well as formerly
homeless individuals, will help with the count and conduct
surveys from 8:00pm to 3:30am on January 25, 2005. The Diner
will serve fresh coffee with hot soup and sandwiches for all
participants.
The
Homeless Count, taken over a 3-day period, is important to
all homeless service agencies as they depend on this count
to prove needs when applying for funding.

Britannia
Awards Event Raises $10,000 for NDI!
On
Thursday November 4, 2004, BAFTA/LA
hosted the annual Britannia Awards, honoring extraordinary
individuals who have made significant contributions to the
international entertainment industry: Tom Hanks; Dame Helen
Mirren; DBE; and Jim Sheridan.
Last
month, BAFTA/LA's executive director Donald Haber said their
board decided NDI's work was valuable and deserving of the
spotlight. The decision to honor New Directions meant
a portion of the evening's proceeds was donated to NDI. That
was worth $10,000.
New
Directions came to the attention of BAFTA/LA through honoree
Tom Hanks, who along with his partner Gary Goetzman are long-time
supporters of New Directions.
