To
donate clothing and other goods, call 1-866-VETS-NDI
(1-866-838-7634).
Donated goods will be sold in Los Angeles-area Disabled
Veterans Charities nonprofit thrift stores, raising
money to benefit New Directions. Drop off donations or call
for pick-up, usually within 2 days. When calling, identify
your donation as benefiting New Directions. Make sure your
donation receipt has New Directions checked. If you value
your donation at more than $250, you must provide an itemized
list for the driver to sign, along with a copy for the driver
to keep. Items needed include housewares, kitchenware, small
appliances, small furniture (large furniture by special arrangement),
shoes, linens, and jewelry.
New Directions manages the Westside Cold Weather Shelter program
with help from the Westside Shelter and Hunger Coalition.
Our combined efforts with other local charities house those
in need during the cold season. Since December 1, New Directions
has served 160 people per night in the West LA Armory and
150 people per night in the Culver City Armory. New Directions
provides 160 meals per night for West Los Angeles, while Step
Up On Second provides 150 meals per night for Culver City.
OPCC supplies each location with coffee, supplies, and paper
goods, while the Venice Family Clinic provides much-needed
medical screening and treatment at each site. This invaluable
program ends March 15.
