PERSONAL ADVOCATE FOR OUTREACH

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a full-time, non-exempt Personal Advocate for Outreach for our Operation Welcome Home program. The OWH Personal Advocate for Outreach will plan and facilitate unique and creative outreach efforts, including multimedia presentations, for veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq (OEF/OIF) and their families.  She/He will lead the outreach team in providing essential education about PTSD, benefits, job resources, and other vital issues for the veteran population, and will attract veterans to the Operation Welcome Home Program.  We are looking for an energetic and outgoing individual to be a part of our team. This position requires the following:

Job Duties:

• Create advertising and marketing materials for the Operation Welcome Home Program.
• Research different communities/locations for outreach to Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
• Work with veterans in homes, schools, and other non-traditional, community oriented environments.
• Develop referral resources for the various communities, including medical, legal, dental and/or psychological services
• Work collaboratively with other staff members.
• Help develop computerized case management and data management systems
• Participate in conferences, workshops, special projects and staff meetings
• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED required. B.A. in related field preferred. 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to speak in front of large groups of people.
• Creativity, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude
• Working knowledge of community resources and services for veterans.  Ability to locate and create additional resources
• Experience and knowledge in working with a multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Word processing skills required
• Excellent people skills and a sincere desire to help veterans.
• Ability to drive and to be insured by New Directions' insurance company
