| Rudy E. Grimaldo, Chair. He is Director of Operations for a healthcare management company. He received an MBA from USC Marshall School of Business. Mr. Grimaldo is a veteran of Afghanistan where he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army. He brings a broad business background to New Directions. | |
| David Baylor, Vice Chair. He is founder and principal of DB Technology, a consultancy focused on media, technology and organizational change. Mr. Baylor is a Senior Executive with over 40 years’ experience in broadcast television engineering and operations. He has a demonstrated successful track record of strategic planning, cutting edge technology development and implementation as well as leading organizational change in a diverse environment. He has solid experience in developing and managing annual budgets in excess of $100 million. | |

Ted Howells, Treasurer. He is a former Chief Financial Officer of both Beacon Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment. A U.S. Army combat veteran in Vietnam, Mr. Howells advises New Directions on many issues, including financial matters. |
| Jennifer Kim, Secretary. As Supervising Deputy Attorney General for California, she brings more than 15 years of government and policy expertise to the New Directions Board of Directors. In addition to working as an instructor at the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, Ms. Kim is also serves on the Board of the California Conference of Bar Associations. | |
| Elijah Adams, Member. He is President and CEO of Faith Electric and General Building Contractors, LLC. Formerly, Mr. Adams was a Principal in Industrial and Private Equity practices at Bain and Company, and Vice President in BNY Mellon’s corporate strategy group where he led the development of a new product that became a $25+revenue business. Elijah earned a B.S. in Finance and a joint Master’s degree from the School of Computer Science and the Tepper Graduate School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University. He is a former member of our SpringBoard. | |
| George Davis, Member. The owner of Davis Broadband Group, a consulting firm for International satellite and broadcast operations, Mr. Davis was previously a Senior Vice President at Technicolor and Vice President at Sony Pictures Entertainment. He was appointed to the State Bar Board of Governors as a public member in 2007. He received his MBA from USC Marshall School of Business, and currently serves on the State Executive Council of California AARP. He brings general business experience, community outreach and media expertise to the New Directions Board. | |
| Jackie Freedman, Member. An Elementary School Teacher and retired City Planner with Culver City, CA, Ms. Freedman brings her expertise in local government to New Directions’ board. She holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and serves on the board of the Westwood Community Council and is Co-President of Coalition of Veterans’ Lands. | |
| Ben Gales, Member. A staff attorney at Public Counsel Law Center in Los Angeles, Mr. Gales focuses on legal issues affecting veterans and specializes in the area of criminal justice and alternative sentencing models for veterans. Mr. Gales was actively involved in the development of the Los Angeles Veterans Court, works on relevant legislation and policy, and provides direct legal services to homeless veterans. He is a graduate of the UCLA School of Law and holds a degree in psychology from Bowdoin College where he graduated magna cum laude. | |
| Andrew David Gross, Member. A principal at Thomas Safran & Associates, Andrew is experienced in all aspects of affordable and market rate development, including site acquisition, public and private joint ventures, creative financing, negotiations, land use entitlements, design and construction. Mr. Gross is a member of the California Bar, earned a JD/MBA from Emory University and graduated cum laude with a degree in economics from the University of California, San Diego. | |
| Phalen Hurewitz, Member. An entertainment attorney with Isaacson, Kaufman & Painter, he represents clients in the music, television and film industries. Mr. Hurewitz brings with him more than 30 years of experience leading and assisting community service organizations in the Los Angeles area. | Charles Kahn, Member. A retired founding partner of Berger Kahn, a 64-member Los Angeles law firm. After retiring, Mr. Kahn earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, and served as a psychology intern specializing in homeless and addicted persons. Subsequently, he worked as a part-time procedures analyst for Douglas Emmett & Company, a property ownership and management company. He brings a variety of legal, investment and psychological experience to the board. | |
Steven Keesal, Member. A financial advisor at Oppenheimer & Co., he served in the U.S. Army Special Operations Command as an Airborne Ranger in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. Keesal is on the Boards of American Gold Star Manor and the Rotary Club of Long Beach. A former member of our SpringBoard, he is also a New Directions alumnus. |

John J Lonergan Jr., Member. A Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge, appointed by the Governor in 2010. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Lonergan was a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles County since 1999. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Colonel Lonergan has served in a variety of leadership positions with the active duty, California Army National Guard and US Army Reserves between 1985 to the present. He holds an M.S. in Administration and a J.D. in Law. |
| Ralph E. Martinsen, Member. He is a Director of Operations, Physician Practice Management, for Sovereign Healthcare. Mr. Martinsen is an Iraq War Veteran who served as a telecommunications Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He holds an MBA from the Marshall School at USC, a B.A. from New York University, and is a former member of our SpringBoard. | |
| Philip Scully, Member. He is an Equity Research Associate with Capital International Research, Inc. His research covers alternative energy, industrial and restaurant companies. Prior to joining Capital International in 2008, Mr. Scully worked as an investment banker at Credit Suisse First Boston in New York City. He earned an MBA from the Georgetown University and a B.A. from Kenyon College. He is actively involved with charities in the Los Angeles community including service on the Financial Advisory Board at Chrysalis. | |
| Bill Shean, Member. An honorably discharged Vietnam veteran who served as a Seabee E-4 Builder in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Shean currently works as Senior Project Manager at R.W. Selby and Company. He brings his expertise as a facility/construction consultant and his experience as a New Directions alumnus to the organization. | |
