ASSESSMENT CENTER & OUTREACH SUPERVISOR

 

 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Assessment Center and Outreach Coordinator to supervise the assessment team and provide outreach to homeless veterans in the community who may be candidates for our program.  Candidates are expected to develop relationships with partners at the VA, in the court system and jails in order to build referrals for the program. 

 

Duties:

  • Supervise outreach staff and assessment center team
  • Maintain schedules for team members
  • Complete all paperwork, monthly reporting and organization of the program
  • Reach out to homeless veterans and inform them about services offered at New Directions and begin to develop relationships
  • Implement new strategies and plans for outreach to veterans, agencies and the community
  • Assist in determining veteran status
  • Visit jails and provide information to inmates
  • Inform law enforcement officials of New Directions’ services at various roll calls when necessary
  • Determine eligibility status for veterans coming to New Directions and help with screenings and intakes
  • Liaison with VA and assist in referring veterans to the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center
  • Maintain weekly reports recording the locale and activities of each visit.
  • Schedule and attend community events
  • Outreach to agencies and other possible referral locations
  • Check the status of residents upon arrival and take report from outgoing shift members.
  • Log in data for patient records
  • Check status of medicine locker and log
  • Maintain all equipment and sanitary status of bed and lavatory areas
  • Monitor and maintain logs of physical and mental status of all residents
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Coordinate all detox personnel in concert with program manager and assist management in scheduling evaluations and screenings.
  • Facilitate in-service training for detox staff
  • Meet with Program Manager and Director for supervision and overall evaluation of detox process
  • Assist in drug testing, and coordinate urine analysis, and breathalizing
  • Coordinate with program staff regarding residents' medications
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in field of alcohol and drug abuse
  • High school diploma or GED Certification preferred, but not required.
  • Detox and rehabilitation experience preferred
  • Ability to plan, organize and oversee program.
  • Ability to creatively change program and restructure as needed.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent reading comprehension and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact with social workers, police and other professionals
  • Basic understanding of homeless issues and needs
  • Ability to drive and use own vehicle as needed.
  • Ability to interact with veterans who are homeless and substance abusers
  • Basic computers skills
  • Veterans preferred

 

New Directions is a well established long-term, residential care, substance abuse, and mental health organization. Founded in 1992, the agency offers a comprehensive set of services for homeless male and female veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
