What can I donate?

Why should I donate my car?

It is much easier to donate your automobile than to sell it yourself. You do not have to worry about repairs, finding a buyer, or wade through the paperwork. In addition, your donation will have a direct benefit by supporting New Directions' work to provide the life-saving and proven services needed to help our veterans return to their families and the community.

Is my donation tax deductible?

New Directions is recognized by the IRS as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Therefore, your donation is tax-deductible, to the full extent of the law .

When your donated vehicle is sold for more than $500, you will receive an acknowledgment letter for tax purposes, which will contain the VIN number, date of the sale, gross proceeds of the sale, and the date of your donation.

However, each individual's tax situation is different, so we recommend that you check with your tax professional to determine the amount of tax benefit you may receive from your donation.

What do I need to provide?
Aside from the car, we will need the title (pink slip) and registration. If you do not have them, call us anyway. We may be able to make other arrangements.

“My car hasn't run in years.” Can I still donate it?

Yes, most vehicles are accepted, running or not (exceptions include, older vehicles whose value would not offset the cost of towing). To find out if we can accept your vehicle, please call us at (310) 914-4045, ext. 135.

Can you pick up vehicles in all 50 states?
Yes, i t is possible to pick up most vehicles in the continental U.S. and Hawaii .

How will the car be picked up?

We will arrange to have your vehicle towed away at a scheduled time. A representative from our car program will contact you to schedule an appointment within three or four business days at the most. If you need your car picked up sooner, please call us at (310) 914-4045, ext. 135.
