A DIFFICULT LOSS...

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of a very special member of the New Directions family. Margaret "Maggie" Zaas died on Monday, April 10th, 2006.

There are certain people in this world who leave an indelible mark on the hearts and souls of those around them. Maggie Zaas was one of those people. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit and her energy have forever changed New Directions and the lives of all the residents and staff who knew her. Maggie passionately dedicated the last 15 years of her life to this organization and the veterans we serve. Her legacy will live on here forever in our hearts and minds. She is woven into the fabric of our history. We will miss her but consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have shared in her life and her dreams. May she rest in sweet, sweet peace.

On Thursday, April 13th, New Directions was honored to host Senator Barbara Boxer as our guest for a tour of the award-winning Regional Opportunity Center facility. The Senator was treated to a performance by the New Directions Choir which she followed up with a heartfelt press conference on her longstanding fight for veteran funding. News agencies covering her visit included NBC-4, Fox-11 and KPCC 89.3. New Directions is honored to partner with Senator Boxer in providing services to the homeless veterans that have fought for our freedom. Thank you Senator Boxer!!
