Stefl, Senior Vice President of Communications for Nestlé
USA , will be honored with the History of Freedom Award at
New Directions 10th Annual Veterans
Day Golf Classic on Monday, November 7, 2005 at MountainGate
Country Club.
Stefl,
who served as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, is a decorated
combat veteran of the Vietnam Conflict receiving the Bronze
Star for Valor. He has distinguished himself in the field
of business as well, spanning his career at Procter &
Gamble, Carnation Company and Ogilvy & Mather. Mr. Stefl
joined Nestlé in 1993. He is a member of the Association
of National Advertisers Board of Directors and the U.S. Marine
Corps 38 th OCC/3-66 TBS Alumni Association Board of Directors.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AWARDS
NEW
DIRECTIONS DEFERRAL LOAN
New
Directions was recently awarded $214,488 in a deferred loan
from the state Emergency Housing Assistance Program Community
Development (EHAPCD) program.
The
funding will be used for repairs for New
Directions
Regional
Opportunity
Center,
the 60,000 square-foot, 76-year-old building on the West Los
Angeles Veterans Affairs campus which was extensively renovated
in 1997. EHAPCD funds will enable New Directions to upgrade
its roofing and flooring, install new fans, paint interior
walls, purchase built-in kitchen equipment, and improve the
fire alarm system.
The
Regional Opportunity
Center
can house up to 156 homeless
veterans at a time. It contains a Detoxification and
Assessment Center, as well as 20 units containing beds. It
also houses 12 Shelter-Plus Care units, which are permanent
housing for elderly or disabled veterans. There are 5,300
square feet of kitchen/dining room, a culinary arts classroom,
a computer classroom, a construction estimation classroom,
a remedial education classroom, community (“family”) room,
alumni room and administrative offices.
